AUB Mediterraneo: A New Era of Education on the island of Cyprus in Europe

The American University of Beirut – Mediterraneo (AUB Mediterraneo) opened its doors in fall 2023, establishing an exciting academic hub in the coastal city of Pafos, Cyprus. Welcoming over 150 students from 26 countries for its inaugural fall 2024 semester, this new campus is dedicated to fostering a vibrant and diverse learning community. Located in downtown Pafos, just steps from the Mediterranean Sea, AUB Mediterraneo offers students a dynamic educational environment that balances academic rigor with personal growth.

As a twin campus of the American University of Beirut (AUB), the new campus’ architectural elements were inspired by AUB’s iconic Beirut campus featuring a clock tower and green oval area, blending tradition with modern design. Part of AUB’s broader Global initiative, AUB Mediterraneo represents a forward-looking vision, expanding AUB’s legacy of excellence to new regions and new generations.

The programs at AUB Mediterraneo are tailored to offer students a truly global perspective, integrating European and Middle Eastern viewpoints into the curriculum. “Our courses offer students a global perspective by blending European and Middle Eastern viewpoints, enriching their learning experience,” says Rector Wassim El Hajj. “Our innovative curriculum equips students with the tools and skills they need for success in a rapidly changing world.” Through this distinctive approach, AUB Mediterraneo prepares students to think critically and creatively, empowering them to address challenges and seize opportunities in the global landscape.
